Pour déterminer les pots du tirage de la CAN 2017, la CAF a appliqué sa traditionnelle formule qui mixe qualification à la CAN et à la coupe du monde, plus les performances lors des précédentes CAN.
À ce jeu là, contrairement au classement FIFA, l’Algérie n’est pas première, mais 7e nation et intègre donc le premier pot des 13 têtes de série.
